Exploring Cybersecurity: A Student’s Journey

Hello! I’m Andrei Gorlitsky, currently pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity at Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont, with an anticipated graduation date of 2026. My passion for cybersecurity began long before college and has grown immensely throughout my education. I’ve dedicated myself to exploring the vast and ever-changing world of cybersecurity, a field that not only excites me but also holds incredible significance in our increasingly digital world.

At Champlain College, I’ve had the privilege of immersing myself in a rigorous cybersecurity curriculum that includes courses such as Digital Forensics & Incident Response, Ethical Hacking, Cyber Threat Intelligence, Security Policies & Risk Management, and Security Scripting with Python. These courses have provided me with foundational knowledge and practical skills critical to addressing cybersecurity challenges head-on. I’m proficient in tools like Kali Linux, Metasploit, Wireshark, and Wireshark, each offering unique insights into securing systems, analyzing vulnerabilities, and responding to threats swiftly and effectively.

Currently, I am working at the Leahy Center for Digital Forensics & Cybersecurity at Champlain College, where I handle complex cybersecurity infrastructure and support investigations into cybersecurity incidents. This role has provided me hands-on experience with cutting-edge tools such as Autopsy, FTK Imager, Volatility, and Wireshark. Deploying and configuring virtual environments for cybersecurity research and penetration testing has honed my practical skills, enhancing my ability to detect vulnerabilities and respond to threats effectively.

My passion for cybersecurity also extends beyond classroom learning. Actively participating in Capture The Flag (CTF) competitions has sharpened my problem-solving and critical thinking skills, pushing me to apply theoretical knowledge practically. Through these competitions, I’ve gained extensive experience in penetration testing techniques, malware analysis, and critical cybersecurity thinking. Additionally, my involvement in Champlain’s Cybersecurity Club has allowed me to engage with fellow enthusiasts, discuss contemporary cybersecurity challenges, and share knowledge about emerging cybersecurity trends and technologies.

My goal moving forward is to continue expanding my cybersecurity knowledge, obtain professional certifications, and ultimately contribute positively to the cybersecurity industry. I am deeply committed to staying abreast of technological advancements and cybersecurity threats, ensuring that my skills remain relevant and impactful in our rapidly changing digital landscape.

Thank you for joining me on my cybersecurity journey. Together, let’s create a more secure and trustworthy digital world.
